Moto Trip 2009

I guess at this point, I should provide more background/context to the trip. I have wanted to do this for a long time now, time was always the challenge. The swell company I work for, provides a 4-week sabbatical to be used in the 5th year. It is a use it or furggedaboutit kinda thing...I wasnt going to do the latter....so...time for moto trip :) The trip: The plan was not to really have a plan. I knew that I wanted get to CT, other than that everything has been quite literally 'seat of the pants'. Actually, not entirely true, 'for sure' (imagine it being said with a Rossi/Italian inspired accent), I had a few places I wanted to see, so I kinda strung them together. The Steed: I ended up buying a bike geared to long distance riding, panniers and all, a Yamaha FJR. It took me a while to find the right one, but when it did happen, boy, was it the right one. It had all the right farkles, so made it a gas up and go bike. If I had done it on the other bike, which is still ...

Day 1: More... My 1st real stop. For those that can pick out the bike in this photo, there is one. If you cant, Costco always has a great deal on eye tests and eyeglasses, I would know. Anyways, I digress, there is a bike, 1st thing i noticed was the out of country registration. The bloke, was from crikey-blimey land. He'd been on the road for about 8 months, started in the UK, through Europe, Mongolia/China, South Korea and God knows where else. He was going across Canada and the US and told me quite calmly that he had about a year more of riding....Meera are you listening? I see Mongolia in my biking future :) Middlegate Junction in all its glory (on hwy 50 between Carson City and Eureka). I didnt stay there since the place looked a tad fancy for my liking. This IS all of the town!

Day 1, Tuesday, 1st September, 2009: Getting ready to leave. Disclaimer and apologies...sort of: Sorry folks, I am a little late getting back on the blog. Mostly to be blamed on the fine establishments that I stayed at the past couple of days that hadnt heard of the internet or wifi. Here is some more of the stuff that made the trip. At the time it seemed like it wouldnt be enough, but a few days later I feel I over packed. It is really amazing how little one can get by on...note to all you heavy shoppers/stuff acquirers :) The steed, I wasnt a fan of the super-sized windshield but it proved its worth Loaded and locked, cant wait to get going In the beginning...there were o miles on the odometer. I was hoping to leave around 6ish, but didnt really hit the road until about 8am
